What to expect at your first class . . .

1. As soon as you walk into the training hall you'll get a friendly greeting from the Instructor who will introduce himself and ask if you want to join in with the class or just watch. If you can turn up about ten minutes before the start of the class then you'll be able to have a chat with the Instructor and ask any questions before the start - don't worry if you can't get there early, the Instructor will make sure to find time during a break or after the lesson to talk to you.

2. If you want to try a free class you'll need to fill in a form to temporarily insure you - it's not a big deal and doesn't oblige you to do or pay anything.

3. Every class starts with a 'warm-up' which may be made up of many different activities and exercises to get your heart pumping and your muscles loosened up. Sometimes light and fun, sometimes rigorous, the Instructor will aim to give a warm-up that no-one finds either easy or impossible. No-one will be counting exercises or comparing one student to another.

4. After the warm-up you'll get a brief break to have a quick drink or visit to the toilet if you need it.

5. Every class includes stretching, and just like the warm-up the Instructor will ensure that everyone benefits and no-one finds it too easy or difficult.

6. After the warm-up and stretching comes the main lesson. The Instructor will give the class whatever training he feels they require, sometimes this means breaking the class into smaller groups for more grade-specific levels of training. Groups will always be led by an experienced Black belt or the Instructor, and all groups will train in the same hall under the supervision of the Instructor.
No student will be asked to participate in any training which is too advanced for them.

7. When the class has formally ended you will be welcome to talk to the Instructor and ask any questions you may have about the lesson.

What to expect NOT to happen at your first class . . .

3. You won't get any abuse or do anything in front of the class.

4. You won't get looked down on for making mistakes (why would you come to a class if you were already perfect?!)

5. You won't get beaten up!

6. You won't regret coming along and having a go!
